Welcome to the Women in Consulting (WIC) community! As a new member, you’re now part of an incredible network of professionals who are dedicated to supporting each other in growing their consulting businesses. To help you get started, we have compiled a list of key resources and tools within WIC that have been invaluable to us and many others.

Favorite WIC Resources

1. The WIC Email Lists (wic-community and wic-off-topic)

The two email lists are fantastic resources. Whether you’re seeking answers to specific questions or just curious about how others handle certain aspects of their businesses, these listservs are your go-to. The wic-community email list is perfect for professional inquiries and industry discussions, while the wic-off-topic email list offers a more casual space for diverse conversations and networking. We particularly enjoy the off-topic list for its wealth of information shared by fellow members.

2. WIC Mastermind Groups

We can’t emphasize enough how beneficial the WIC mastermind groups are. These groups provide a structured environment for small groups of consultants to meet regularly, share challenges, and offer each other support and accountability. They have been instrumental in my professional growth and we highly recommend joining one.

3. In-person Networking

In-person networking events are one of the best ways to connect with fellow consultants in a more personal and impactful way. WIC organizes various events where you can meet other members, share experiences, and build relationships. These events provide an opportunity to discuss industry trends, seek advice, and collaborate on projects. We highly recommend attending as many in-person events as you can to maximize your networking opportunities and create lasting professional relationships.

3. The Sandbox

Held on the first Wednesday of every month, The Sandbox is a collaborative space where members discuss a pre-selected topic and help each other with brainstorming and problem-solving. It’s always a trusted, supportive group, and attendees leave each session feeling more energized and full of new ideas. The topics are brainstormed at the beginning of the year, ensuring that the discussions are relevant and engaging.

4. The Expert Series

The Expert Series features more formal talks by industry leaders and seasoned consultants. These sessions are always interesting and incredibly useful, providing practical advice that you can apply to your business.

Theresa’s Personal Experience with WIC

I joined WIC in 2007 and I’ve found WIC to be a fantastic group for connecting with and learning from other consultants. The community is always ready to assist.

Here’s a personal tip: One of the best ways to make the most out of your WIC membership is by volunteering. Volunteering has allowed me to make deeper connections and develop new skills. Getting involved in organizing events, leading discussions, or contributing to special projects not only helps the community but also enhances your visibility and credibility within the group.

Elise’s Personal Experience with WIC

I am new to WIC, having joined shortly after moving to Washington, DC, in September 2023. At that time, everything was new to me—a new country, a new market, and I had no friends or support system here. Attending an in-person WIC event in DC just two months after my move was a game-changer. The warmth and support I received from fellow members were incredible. Joining the biweekly mastermind groups, in particular, has been invaluable. These groups have not only provided me with the professional guidance I needed but have also made me feel supported and less alone in this transition. WIC has quickly become a vital part of my new life here, and I am deeply grateful for the connections and friendships I’ve already formed.

Final Thoughts

Welcome once again to WIC! We have learned so much, generated business, and made some wonderful friends through this organization. To get the most out of your membership, engage actively with the resources available, participate in events, and reach out to other members.
