Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Are Not Optional

Diverse opinions, backgrounds, cultures, ages, race, and economic situations
are critical to a thriving community creating new ways of thinking and succeeding.

Women In Consulting stands in solidarity with people protesting the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the countless other black men and women whose lives have been ended at the hands of the police, criminal justice inequality, and systemic racism. Protests and vigils are frequently the catalysts for crucial foundational change in our democracy, however uncomfortable they may be.

Women In Consulting as an organization recognizes the benefits we’ve experienced via white privilege.

We are committed to being anti-racist in our actions, our policies, our membership outreach, our speakers, and our outreach and mentorship for ongoing WIC leadership. We will be doing the work to make that happen. This commitment takes us further than our non-discrimination policy in our Bylaws.

We look forward to having deep dialogue on what that really means and how we can shift the dynamic for broader support of our colleagues who are people of color.

Resources

Our resource page can help all of us to educate ourselves and take anti-racist action. We offer lists of books, essays, videos, and more for our members and our community to use for their own education and also to help their clients and their community in whatever ways make sense.

Women In Consulting’s leadership continues to take advantage of these resources, as well as reach out to understand how we can better serve the community as champions for anti-racism. We are looking at workshops and exercises to increase self-awareness and understanding for our current leadership as well as offerings for our community.

DEI Book Study Group

We have a book study group that has read and discussed twenty-one books covering the history of racism, actions to take, and controversial fiction, as well as books on the anti-Asian-American treatment in US history, and the challenges faced by North American Indigenous peoples. We welcome new members. The group is free, membership is required, and an agreement to confidentiality and safety. Each book takes about 1-2 months to cover, meeting weekly. The discussion is facilitated by Kathryn Gorges, President of Women In Consulting. Contact us here if you’re interested.
