As a small business owner you may be using a Blackberry as an everyday business tool, but what if you lose it? You’ll lose all your contacts and information with it and that’s not a pretty picture!

Well, Blackberry has a free app called “Protect” and that’s something you may want to look into. 

So, what are the key features of Protect?

BlackBerry Protect allows you the ability to wirelessly backup, restore and locate your BlackBerry® phone. In the event that your  phone is misplaced, lost or even stolen, BlackBerry Protect provides you with features like: remote device wipe, remote device lock, a custom “Lost and Found” screen, and you can even use gps to locate it on a map. Another nice feature is, remote activation of the BlackBerry phone’s loud ringer (even if your ringer is set to silent), along with wireless device backup and restore.

To get Protect just go to Blackberry’s website and download the app on to your computer. You will need to hookup your phone and register to access the BlackBerry ID – Sign In area. For more info about Protect checkout Blackberry’s Blog.

Note: I did run into errors while trying to download the app using IE7 but had no problem with Firefox.
